How can I get perspiration odors out of nylon material?
My daughter has a Danskin leotard that is mainly nylon but also a little lycra or spandex. How can I get the perspiration odor out of the armpit area? Laundry instructions state that it can be washed but needs to line dry. I have tried hand washing and rinsing with vinegar in the rinse water. I’ve also sprayed with Febreze but nothing seems to get rid of the odor. Help!
Fels Naptha Heavy Duty soap and Borax will work on it. First, wet the leotard then work up a lather with the soap, work the lather into the armpit area. Put the leotard into the washer with 2/3 cup of borax (throw in other smelly garmets as well) and with your regular detergent. Allow the garments to soak for a couple of hours in the borax/detergent solution. Borax is great for removing perspiration odors and the soap removes the residue from the fabric which cause the odors.
well if you try the good old fashioned soap bar for washing clothes you will find no problem. Soak the leotard in cold water remove from water , give a good rub with soap then leave free from the water for 1/2 or less depending how bad the stain is, then back to the water add more soap . Leave the soap on and wash on normal wash. this soap is great for whites also especially collar & cuffs & if you hang the clothes out in the sun the sun will bleach the stain“s out the natural way
Try adding a 1/4 cup of baking soda to the rinse cycle the next time you wash it. I do this with all my towels and workout clothes. It removes the nasty smells just like in the fridge.
